Wipro CISO Sunil Varkey on the Insider Threat

Expert Offers Insights on Educating Employees About Do's and Don'ts
Wipro CISO Sunil Varkey on the Insider Threat

The most important way to address the insider threat is to educate employees about the do's and don'ts of information security so they won't fall victim to cybercriminals who want to steal their credentials to gain system access, says Sunil Varkey, CISO for global IT business at Wipro, a consultancy and outsourcing firm.

Varkey will be a featured speaker at Information Security Media Group's Bengaluru Fraud and Breach Prevention Summit June 7.

The most significant insider threat, he contends, is not malicious employees but "ignorant activity or an oversight or an error which makes [an employee] vulnerable."

In this interview (see audio link below photo), Varkey discusses:

  • How attackers are exploiting trust between a company and its employees or business partners;
  • How cybercriminals are using social engineering to take advantage of insiders;
  • Why employees need to understand that cybersecurity is their responsibility.

Varkey, Wipro's CISO for its global IT business, has more than 22 years of IT and information assurance leadership experience in banking, telecom, information technology enabled services and manufacturing.
