Ramanan C of Citrix Describes How SDWANs Can Boost Security
Sizing Up the Role of Software-Defined WANs

Some larger organizations are implementing software-defined wide area networks to help with enterprisewide network security over multiple locations and branches, says Ramanan C, director for cloud networking for the India subcontinent at Citrix.

In an interview with Information Security Media Group, Ramanan contends that SDWANs are more secure than Multi-Protocol Label Switching-based WAN networks for connecting dispersed locations over the internet.

"Every single data flow over this network can be measured and monitored, and the visibility which this provides gives the complete control centrally to the network administrator," he says. These end-to-end visibility, monitoring and central management capabilities makes exercising network security and control over hundreds of physical locations - and even on the public cloud - consistent, he claims.

In this (see audio player link below image), Ramanan speaks about:

  • Weighing the pros and cons of SDWAN vs MPLS WANs;
  • Cloud security trends in India;
  • Cloud security developments for the coming year.

Ramanan is the director for cloud networking business at Citrix Systems in India. He has been with the company for more than eight years and has extensive experience across verticals in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan markets. He has over 20 years of experience in the information technology sector in the business development space. Prior to Citrix, Ramanan worked at Nortel, Cisco and Ingram Micro.
