'Era of Point Products Is Over' in Enterprise Security

Fortinet's Vishak Raman on Taking a Platform-Based Approach to Cyber Resilience
Vishak Raman, vice president sales, India, SAARC, SEA and ANZ, Fortinet

As ransomware threats continue to escalate, with attacks increasing 13-fold in early 2024, traditional security defenses are proving inadequate. Security leaders must move beyond siloed tools to create a comprehensive defense strategy that integrates secure networking, SASE capabilities and advanced security operations.

This transformation has become critical as organizations manage hybrid workforces and an average of more than 125 SaaS applications, requiring unified visibility and control across environments.

"The era of point products is over, and what we are seeing is a platform-based approach. This platform-based approach with the convergence of networking and security is happening in secure networking SASE, which is in the unified SASE format, and a third is in the security operations. And this would actually help CISOs to move away from this whole maze of point products approach," said Vishak Raman, vice president of sales for India, SAARC, SEA and ANZ at Fortinet.

A unified approach enables organizations to consolidate their security tools, streamline management, and improve threat detection and response capabilities across their expanding digital ecosystem.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at the GovWare 2024 Summit, Raman also discussed:

  • How AI enables improved threat detection and automation in security operations;
  • Why cybersecurity is a team sport;
  • The importance of OT visibility and segmentation in expanding attack surfaces.

Raman has more than 25 years of cybersecurity expertise, specializing in product management, sales strategy and business development across Asia-Pacific regions. He has worked at organizations such as Cisco, Tata Communications, Sify and HCL Technologies.
