Liv Rowley, intelligence analyst, Flashpoint

Hacking is truly a global phenomenon; it's pervasive in Spanish-speaking Latin America, says Liv Rowley, an intelligence analyst at Flashpoint.

Rowley has been tracing the region's top dark web forum, Cebolla Chan 3.0 - cebolla is Spanish for "onion." The cybercrime-focused forum is so popular that it's even got its own fan videos on YouTube. And like other hacking-focused forums, she says it provides a ready supply of everything from hacking tools to know-how (see Cybercrime as a Service: Tools + Knowledge = Profit).

In a video interview at RSA Conference 2018, Rowley discusses:

  • The nuances of Latin American hacker forums;
  • How Cebolla Chan 3.0 went dark, then mysteriously reappeared;
  • Cebolla Chan's cult of personality.

Rowley is a cybercrime intelligence analyst focusing on the deep and dark web at Flashpoint. She delivered a presentation on "Cebolla Chan 3.0: A Window into the Chaotic Spanish-Language Underground" at the RSA 2018 conference in San Francisco.
