Internal audits over the years have progressed a lot and plays a vital role in enterprise risk management, says Venkataraman TV, head internal audit risk management at Ashok Leyland, an automobile company. "Internal audits have now become a forward looking, risk-based mechanisms for organizations to take cognizance of what are the key risks and this is where it is a complementary role with enterprise risk management," says Venkataraman.
He says internal audits needs to progress when it comes to technology. "How do you leverage technology and how do you make internal audit functions more agile using structured analytics and using technology levers," remarks Venkataraman.

He has more than 20 years of experience spanning manufacturing and service sectors, across diverse geographies in the domains of governance, risk management, and compliance. Prior to joining Ashok Leyland, he was the head of assurance at Flipkart Group.
